Precision and Progress - Development of the Company

With the founding of the first precision mechanical factory in 1846 by Carl Zeiss the foundation-stone was laid for a development of that time still unexpected magnitude. Together with Ernst Abbe he developed in Jena the precision mechanical-optical industry what made a large-scale enterprise of meaning beyond the country's frontiers from the former crafts enterprise.

In 1991 the company was split in the Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH and the Jenoptik GmbH which emerged till this day as  worldwide operating high-tech groups. Moreover many subsidaries these both companies have founded like the Jenoptik Automatisierungstechnik GmbH.
